Kennington Common commemorations, 10 April 2018
South London Land Plan subscribers
Throughout 2018, I have been working with the Kennington Chartist Project: http://www.kenningtonchartistproject.org/
Kennington Chartist Project is an initiative by local residents of Kennington and Walworth, south London, to raise awareness of the 1848 Chartist Rally on Kennington Common, explore its relevance today, and to generate ideas for future memorials or commemorations – looking towards the 175th Anniversary in 2023. Supported by the Friends of Kennington Park, and the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The programme of events included talks, workshops, a commemoration day on 10 April and a ‘day of action’ on 7 July 2018.
The Kennington Chartist Project research group is working on the life histories of the c.200 local subscribers to the Chartist Land Plan, 1846-8. Here is my draft map of addresses (ongoing):
